Falmouth University
We were approached by Falmouth University’s School of Film and Television to design and make a memorial bench to commemorate the sad death of one of their students. We were given a basic concept with which to work from – the bench was to resemble the aperture found on a camera which accepts the removable lens. Aside from this basic guidance we were free to submit our own vision of what would be appropriate, and we produced two different designs. The customer chose the design you see here, based on their budget, the overall aesthetic style of the design, and the durability of the construction method and the materials involved. The family of the deceased provided the poem and eulogy which was CNC engraved.
Combining more conventional joinery techniques, alongside digital fabrication on the CNC router, we were able to produce something that will endure for many years to come. The solid Iroko was finished in a durable, exterior grade oil.
