Machined with care, and repeated many hundreds of times, using Apply Works on a batch production job such as this saves lots of time and lots of tedious, repetitive hand work.
Local designer/maker Felix McCormack regularly commissions us to carry out machining runs of these steamed beech bread/cake display boards for well known bakery chain Gail’s Bakery. Felix has designed and manufactured much of the chain’s collection as they have grown and increased the number of their shops throughout the country, and we’re extremely proud to be able to assist in one small part of this ongoing project.
The boards are first jointed to make the width before being sanded to a uniform thickness. We then carry out a two stage machining process – firstly we cut the pockets which will accept the feet, and we profile out the shape and size of each board. We then set each individual board within a jig from which we are able to machine the bevel. The use of CNC technology to save on labour on a project like this is what makes it viable at all in the first place.
These boards are part of of a wider collection of cakes stands that are used extensively across all Gail's Bakery stores in the UK, high quality products for commercial use. The focus on this project is on material quality and durability and design details.
“The great benefit to working with Apply works is the combination of high quality CNC production, alongside a highly skilled background in joinery and boatbuilding. With Applyworks you always know that the attention detail will be second to none.”
